Monthly Financials
Each month, Casco Bay Lines staff prepare a financial report package for the Board of Directors. The same package is posted here for the public. Each monthly report includes the following sections:
Financial Notes – A written summary of the month’s financial results, comparing revenues and expenses to budget and to the same period last year, with explanations of the major drivers behind any variances, such as drydock timing, fuel usage, or staffing changes.
Statement of Net Position – A snapshot of the District’s assets, liabilities, and net position as of month end, compared to the close of the prior fiscal year. This is where you’ll find items like cash, receivables, capital assets, and construction in progress.
Revenues and Expenses Summary – A one-page comparison of actual results against budget for the month and fiscal year to date, broken out by major revenue category (scheduled service, group sales, other income) and expense category (personnel, vessels, operations, terminal, sales), along with operating grant revenues and the resulting surplus or loss.
Detailed Revenues and Expenses – Line-item detail behind the summary, including passenger and freight revenue by island, revenue by tour and charter type, and expenses by vessel, department, and account.
Cash Balances – Month-end balances for the District’s bank accounts, including operating funds and restricted reserves such as the Maintenance Fund, Capital Reserve Fund, and Garage Fund.
Grant Balances – A listing of federal and state grant funding available to the District, including remaining balances by grant and funding that has been approved but not yet obligated.
Ridership Data:
This interactive tool lets you explore more than ten years of ridership on Casco Bay Lines, from April 2015 through May 2026, covering regularly scheduled service to Peaks, Little Diamond, Great Diamond, Diamond Cove, Long, Chebeague, and Cliff islands. Use the Trends tab to see ridership for any island or for the whole system, choose a time frame (1, 2, 5, or 10 years, or the full record), and view the data by month, by rolling 12-month total, or by calendar year. The Compare Islands tab lets you put several islands on the same chart and includes a growth summary for each one. The Year over Year tab shows the same island across different years so you can see how seasons and years stack up against each other. Counts include riders in both directions on scheduled runs and exclude charters and excursion cruises.
