Peaks Island is served frequently by the car ferry Machigonne II. The Sailing Schedule tells you when the car ferry is running (as opposed to a passengers-only boat). Car tickets may be purchased at the ticket window or (if being charged to an account) the freight window.  Commercial vehicle tickets must be purchased at the freight window, located in the freight shed.  Commercial vehicle determination includes the following license plate types: Commercial, Combination, Apportioned, State or Municipal.  Base pricing for commercial vehicles is based on the registered gross vehicle weight (registered GVW) which is printed on the vehicle registration, and on the side of most rental trucks.

Reservations for commercial vehicles from Portland to Peaks Island will be accepted at the CBITD Office between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and must be made no less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled run. Reservations for up to two commercial vehicles per run will be accepted for any scheduled weekday service up to and including the 12:15 pm run on Friday. The cost for each reservation will be $25.00 in addition to the applicable transportation charge. Commercial vehicles with reservations must arrive at the terminal no less than 30 minutes prior to departure.

Reservations for one commercial vehicle per run will be accepted beginning with the 3:15 PM run on Fridays through the last scheduled car ferry on Sundays. The cost for each reservation will be $50.00 for commercial vehicles 6,000-10,999 GVW, and $100 for commercial vehicles 11,000 GVW and greater, in addition to the applicable transportation charges. Commercial vehicles with reservations must arrive at the terminal no less than 30 minutes prior to departure.
