The Bay Mist will welcome hundreds of music fans for Holiday on the Harbor this December—but did you know you can book the boat for your own celebration, too?
Casco Bay Lines’ private charters are available for weddings, birthday parties, school dances, company outings, and so much more.
A school tradition afloat
Take for example Windham Middle School’s annual 8th Grade Cruise. This beloved event brings students and teachers onto a cruise around Casco Bay every spring. Shelly Cook has taught at the school for 28 years and coordinated events there for more than two decades. She says the cruise is a big hit.
“It’s one of the most anticipated and cherished traditions I coordinate each year,” she tells us. “For one special evening, I have the opportunity to transform a passenger boat into a magical, enchanted setting where our students can celebrate their middle school years and reflect on the friendships and experiences that have shaped them.”
She says the annual event has a powerful effect on the memories that students bring into their lives. “It is about building connections, fostering a sense of belonging, celebrating milestones, and creating moments that students will carry with them long after they leave WMS,” she says.
How does it work?
The Bay Mist can accommodate up to 250 people. CBL provides the boat and crew, and a complete bar service. You can book a caterer or bring your own food and hire a band or DJ to get the dancing started. We have lists of caterers and entertainers who have delighted our previous customers.
For Windham Middle School, the evening includes food and drinks, then a DJ and dance floor. Shelly adds fun touches, like a photo booth stocked with props. She also credits the CBL crew for being strong partners throughout the event.

“The crew consistently goes above and beyond—from helping with equipment and deliveries to tear-down at the end of the night,” Shelly says. “Their flexibility and warm smiles make a busy, chaotic evening feel manageable and enjoyable.”
