Update as of May 2nd: Through an investigation by the FAA, it was determined that the metal object broke off from a nearby tugboat and did not come from an aircraft.
April 30th – At approximately 10:05 PM in the evening on April 30, 2025, a vehicle parked at the Casco Bay Lines terminal was damaged by an object that appears to have fallen from directly overhead. The vehicle is owned by a Casco Bay Lines employee and was parked in the employee parking section of the terminal lot more than 20 feet from any nearby structures. Casco Bay Lines immediately notified the Portland Police Department, and an officer responded to the scene. The object does not belong to Casco Bay Lines or originate from any Casco Bay Lines equipment, vessels or buildings. On May 1, Casco Bay Lines staff also contacted the Federal Aviation Administration. Staff will continue to work with local and federal officials to review security footage and assist them in determining the cause of the damage. Interim General Manager Nick Mavodones shared, “There were no incidents involving our vessels or equipment and we are confident this object did not come from a Casco Bay Lines ferry. While there is no immediate threat to public safety, we look forward to sharing further information as it becomes available.” Any questions or relevant information should be directed to the Portland Police Department.
