Portland, Maine Passenger Ferry Rates for Casco Bay Islands

All tickets are round trip and are collected in Portland at boarding. Round trip passage is defined as transportation to an island with return on a different boat. Round trip tickets expire 60 days after issue.

Child fares are for children aged 5-9. There is no charge for children under 5.

Senior fares are for people over the age of 65.

A Medicare or METRO Reduced Fare card may be presented to validate half fares for persons with transportation disabilities. We ask your assistance by always presenting proper ID when purchasing half fare tickets.

Commuter Book tickets are for exclusive use only by the purchaser and his or her immediate family and are not otherwise transferable. The purchaser’s immediate family shall include his or her spouse and any or all purchaser’s children under 18 who live with the purchaser. Commuter Book tickets expire 15 days after issue.

Dogs (except service animals) require tickets to board and must be kept leashed at all times.

Bicycles require tickets or must be shipped as freight.

Frequent Rider Pass

The Frequent Rider Pass program is designed for convenience while offering savings to those who travel with Casco Bay Lines more than 5 times per week.

How to Get Started: Purchase a pass for your island destination at the ticket window for $5.00. You will need to have your picture taken, so please plan to come at a slow time (not just before boat departure!). A laminated photo ID card will be made for you and will be available in a day or two.

There are two types of passes: Annual and Monthly pass.

Annual Pass

This is the easiest option and the most cost-effective. The Annual Pass is pre-paid for one full year from the date of purchase and allows you unlimited passage to the island. The Annual Pass also includes transportation of one bicycle along with the pass holder.
Monthly Pass

Monthly Pass

With a Monthly Pass, you purchase a sticker for each calendar month and get unlimited passage to the island during that month. (There is a space on the monthly pass for a second sticker, which may be purchased in advance at the rate applicable to that month.)

The Transit District’s policy concerning Monthly and Annual Passes includes the following restrictions:

• You must show your pass to the deckhand in order to board the boat.
• If you do not have your pass, you must purchase a ticket. This ticket will be refundable when you present your pass at the ticket window on a subsequent date, with a limit of refunds to two times within a twelve month period from date of issuance.
• Passes are non-transferable and may only be used by the person named on the pass. Failure to abide by this rule may result in permanent loss of the pass.
• If you lose your pass, a replacement may be purchased for an $8.00 fee.

Expired Ticket Refund Policy

After a ticket has expired, each ticket can be turned in at the ticket counter toward the purchase of one ticket of the same type (e.g. adult for adult, child for child). The cost for swapping each ticket will be 25 cents per ticket. The cost for swapping an expired vehicle ticket will be $1.00.
The current refund policy stands for commuter tickets and monthly passes.

Special Student Summer Passes

The Transit District’s policy concerning the use of Special Summer Passes issued to students who live year-round on Peaks, Great Diamond and Cliff Island is as follows:

• Passes must be shown to the deckhand in order to board the boat.
• In the event that you do not have your pass, you will be issued a complimentary ticket at the Ferry Terminal ticket window (in advance of boarding). The complimentary ticket will be recorded for future reference.
• On the second or any subsequent occasion that you do not have your pass, you must purchase a ticket. This ticket will be refundable when you present your pass at the ticket window on a subsequent date.
• Passes are non-transferable and may only be used only by the person named on the pass. Failure to abide by this rule may result in permanent loss of the pass.
• If you lose your pass, a replacement may be purchased for an $8.00 fee.
• An “emergency loaner ticket” is provided to children unaccompanied by adult(s) who don’t have sufficient funds to purchase a ticket for the return trip home.
