Island Info - Diamond Cove, Maine

Diamond Cove, on Great Diamond Island, is Maine’s premier private island community. The heart of Diamond Cove is Fort McKinley, designed to defend Portland Harbor during the Spanish-American War. Built between 1891 and 1907, Fort McKinley housed more than 1,000 soldiers in brick barracks and Queen Anne-style officers’ quarters surrounding a stately parade ground. The fort was retired from active service in 1945.

Diamond Cove is a private community and although visitors are welcome to use the restaurant (within 50 yards of the ferry stop at Diamond Cove) and the General Store (located next to the restaurant), they are not allowed to walk through the private property (parks and beaches) or the private roads within this community without an escort.

Things to Do at Diamond cove

Diamond Cove is home to Diamond’s Edge Restaurant, a five star restaurant operated seasonally by a talented local restaurant company. The restaurant offers the best in casual elegant dinner and is also available for weddings, family reunions, and corporate events. The restaurant is open from late May through Columbus Day. During the summer months reservations are recommended. Please call 207-766-5850 for more information.

A General Store on Diamond Cove is open seasonally from the end of May through Labor Day. It offers convenience items, sandwiches, hot food items, and fresh lobster.
