Ferry: Vehicle RatesVehicles to Peaks IslandPeaks Island is served frequently by the car ferry Machigonne II. The Sailing Schedule tells you when the car ferry is running (as opposed to a passengers-only boat). Car tickets may be purchased at the ticket window or the freight window. Commercial vehicle (truck) tickets must be purchased at the freight window. See the column to the right for more information about commercial vehicles. All vehicle tickets to Peaks Island are first-come, first-served. All vehicle tickets to Peaks Island are round trip. You may buy a ticket at any time, but your vehicle must be in line in the car ferry staging lane at least 15 minutes before departure time. The operations agent will direct you to the appropriate staging lane. Late arrivals may be bumped to the next available trip. Vehicle Rates to Peaks IslandPeak Rates: Beginning April 21, 2012 Vehicles Down the BayCasco Bay Lines transports cars and light pickup trucks to Long Island, Chebeague Island, and Cliff Island aboard the Maquoit II. This is not a regularly scheduled service; reservations are required and are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the limitations of schedule, tide, and weather, reservations should be made as far in advance as possible, and transportation on the requested date and time cannot be guaranteed. Charges are one-way; same day round-trip service is not available for any vehicle. All vehicles departing down the bay from Portland must be at the terminal by 8:30 AM — any exceptions must be discussed in advance. Vehicles departing from island piers must be on the pier 1/2 hour in advance of the published departure time. Vehicle Rates Down the BayPeak Rates: Beginning April 21, 2012

Commercial VehiclesA commercial vehicle is defined as a vehicle with commercial license plates, whether it is being used for business purposes or not. A commercial vehicle may make a reservation for a specific trip for a fee. However, the truck must be in the car ferry staging lane at least 30 minutes before departure time or it may be bumped to the next available trip. Vehicle FreightCommercial vehicles are charged according to the gross vehicle weight (GVW) and freight on board is charged per 100 pounds (see rates on the left).
